Nieves ‘Ray’ Chapa, 83 passed away Monday, April 29, 2019 in Lubbock. Funeral Mass for Mr. Chapa will be 2:00 pm Thursday, May 2, 2019 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Olton with Father Brian Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Halfway Cemetery, Halfway, Texas under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home. There will be a rosary at 7:00p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at St. Peters Catholic Church, Olton, Texas.
Nieves was born July 7, 1935 in Realitos, Texas to Sabas and Felicita Chapa. He worked in the agriculture business as a farmer for many years. Nieves was a devoted Catholic and a person who loved animals. He enjoyed raising goats, chickens, and loved gardening just to name a few of his enjoyments in life. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Julia, two daughters, Rosa (Tommy) Flores of Lamesa, Rachel Chapa of Houston; three sons, Sabas Chapa of Lubbock, Reynaldo Chapa of Ft. Stockton, Joe (Monica) Castillo of Lovington New Mexico; four sisters, Rebecca Charles and Soyla Trevino both of Bamboo, Texas, Minerva Lopez of Del Rio, Eloisa DeLeon of Alice; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers.
