Maria J. Prestridge

Maria J. Prestridge, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on February 2, 2025, in Tahoka, Texas. She was born on January 19, 1951, in George West, Texas, the daughter of Juan Valverde Sr. and Leonor. Maria’s life was marked by hard work, faith, and a profound commitment to her family. She was a devoted Catholic who instilled her values in her loved ones.

Throughout her life, Maria embraced her role as a wonderful homemaker, which she balanced with her work cleaning houses in her spare time. Cleanliness was a priority for her, reflecting the care she took in all aspects of her life. Known affectionately as "Big Grandma," she cherished the moments spent with her family, which included twenty-one grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love and warmth.

Maria’s personality shone brightly through her many passions. She was a hard worker, devoted to her family and community. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing Bingo, visiting casinos, and shopping at Walmart and K-mart, always on the lookout for the cherished Blue Light Specials. She was also a fervent fan of The Kansas City Chiefs, especially Patrick Mahomes, finding delight in his performances both as a fan and as an engaging topic of conversation with friends and family.

Maria is survived by her lifelong partner, Jose Maria Munoz Sr. of Tahoka; her sons: Robert Munoz and wife Beverly of Tahoka, Edward Munoz of Tahoka, Gene Munoz and wife Maria of Slaton, Joe Munoz Jr. of Tahoka, and Marion Ray Prestridge of Ohio; her daughter, Melissa Vega of Tahoka; her brother, Juan Valverde Jr. of Tahoka; and her sister, Rosie Morin of Mesa, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Valverde Sr. and Leonor, and her former husband, Jerry Prestridge.

Maria J. Prestridge will be remembered not only for her dedication and hard work but also for the love she spread to those fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Services to honor Maria will be held at Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel in Tahoka, Texas. Visitation will take place on February 5, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on February 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Calvillo Funeral Chapel in Tahoka with Daniel Garza officiating, after which she will be laid to rest at Nevels Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
