Viewing and visitation for Julia “Julie” Chapa, 78 of Halfway will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Olton with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same day. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at St. Peters Catholic Church-Olton with Father George Poonely officiating. Burial will follow at Halfway Cemetery. All arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
Julia, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, August 20, 2022. She was born on August 26, 1943, in Pearsall, TX, to the late Joventino and Dominga Barrera. On November 7, 1959, she married Nieves “Rey” Chapa in Levelland. Julia was a devoted Catholic, she served the church as a Cursillista, a Guadalupana and a Minister of Communion. She was a homemaker and a very dedicated mother. Her family will always remember how she was a great motivator and always wanted the best for her family. Also she was a great prayer warrior and always prayed for her family, friends and those in need.
She is preceded in death by her husband Nieves “Rey” Chapa; her parents Joventino and Dominga Barrera; a brother Joventino Barrera Jr. and a sister Antonia Alaniz.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Savas Chapa of Lubbock, Rey Chapa of Halfway and Joe Castillo of Lovington, New Mexico; daughters Rachel Chapa of Houston and Rosa Flores of Lamesa; a brother Cirildo Barrera of Olton and a sister Oralia Barrera of Olton; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
