Jose Hernandez

Jose V. Hernandez, 97, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in Lubbock.  Services for Mr. Hernandez will be 10:00a.m., Monday, May 20, 2019 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lubbock with Father George Rooney officiating.  Burial will follow in City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home.  A rosary will be held 7:00p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel in Lubbock with a viewing from  12:00-9:00pm on the same day.

Jose was born July 2, 1921 in Yurecuaro, Michoacan, Mexico to the late Pedro and Juana Hernandez.  He married Isabel Gonzales on July 9,1945 in Harlingen, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 29, 1997.

He worked for Farmers Co-op Compress for seasonal for 10 years, then  went full time retiring after 21 years full time.. He was a devout Catholic and  enjoyed many interests and hobbies.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, working with tools,  managing his accounts and gardening, however; his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons, Humberto Hernandez from Burleson, Javier Hernandez of Lubbock; four  daughters, Olivia Cervantez of Lubbock, Nelda Bustoz of Lubbock, Elisa Hernandez-Skaggs of California, Irma Caterina of Friendswood, Texas; twenty three grandchildren; thirty eight great grandchildren; six great- great grandchildren.
