Hortensia Ponce de Rios

Memorial Service for Mrs. Hortensia Ponce de Rios, 73 of Lubbock will begin 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with Miguel Alonso officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.

Hortensia was born on October 20, 1950, in, Mexico, passed away on September 12, 2024, at Covenant Hospital. Known for her vibrant spirit and a passion for life, Hortensia dedicated many years of her career to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, working the Hospitality Services department. Her contributions to the university community were marked by her genuine warmth and commitment to service.Hortensia's life was full of joyful memories, particularly her affinity for celebrating special occasions. She had a special talent for organizing birthday parties for her family, creating lasting memories that her loved ones will cherish forever. Her love for shopping, especially trips to the Mall, showcased her vibrant personality, while her enthusiasm for dancing encapsulated her zest for life.Above all, Hortensia found immense joy in her role as a grandmother. Her eight grandchildren meant the world to her, and she relished the time spent caring for them and being involved in their lives.

Hortensia is survived by her devoted husband, Antonio Rodriguez Rios, and her loving children Kevin Rios, Antonio Rios Jr., and Michael Angel Rios, who is married to Liset. She is also survived by her siblings: Jose Luis Ponce Muriel, Martin Ponce Muriel, Manuel Ponce Muriel, Rogelio Ponce Muriel, Soledad Ponce Muriel, Obdulia Muriel, and Guadalupe Muriel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Ponce Cardenas and Saturnina Ponce Muriel. Hortensia leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that will continue to resonate among all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will endure through the memories she created and the lives she touched.
