Elida Sanchez Chestnut, 90 of Lubbock passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022. Visitation will begin
Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Calvillo Funeral Home
from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., with a rosary
beginning at 6:00 p.m. the same evening. Funeral Mass will begin,
10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church

5803 24th St, Lubbock, TX 79407) with Father Jim McCartney officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. All arrangements were provided under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.
Elida was born March 31, 1932, in Del Rio, Texas to the late Enrique and Antonia Sanchez. In December of 1972 she married Leo Chesnut in Lubbock cherishing thirty-four years of marriage. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2007. Elida was a devoted Catholic and a long-time dedicated member of Saint John Neumann Catholic Church
. She worked as a hairstylist for seventy-two years and was also a talented seamstress. In her spare time, Elida enjoyed playing the piano, painting with oil paints, gardening, and traveling. Elida thoroughly enjoyed vacationing in Spain and Italy, where she was able to visit The Vatican. Elida will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Leo Chestnut; her parents Enrique and Antonia Sanchez; her brother, Reynaldo Sanchez, and her sister, Diamantina Sosa.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sisters Edelmira “Bibi” Licon of Lubbock and Olivia Salyer of San Antonio; two brothers, Enrique Sanchez of Big Spring, and Humberto Sanchez, and wife Alicia, of Odessa; and a host of nieces and nephews.
