Elena Valdez

Elena Hernandez Valdez, 70, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at University Medical Center.  Services for Mrs. Valdez will be 12:00 pm Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Reymundo Manriquez officiating.  Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home. A rosary will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Calvillo Funeral Home.

Elena was born July 14, 1946 in Lubbock to Antonio & Benita Hernandez.  As a homemaker, Elena enjoyed sewing, watching classic TV shows, and tending to her pet birds whom she was very fond of.  She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and made it a point to donate to St. Jude’s Children Hospital every month.

She is survived by her husband, Martin Valdez of Lubbock; one son, Tony Martin Valdez of Lubbock; two daughters, Judy Longoria of Dallas, Jeanne Valdez of Lubbock; one brother, Ennis Hernandez of Lubbock; three sisters, Amelia Guzman, Adelina Medrano both of Lubbock, Carolina Cadena of Arizona; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Baby Benito, Benito Hernandez Sr; one sister, Maria Hernandez.
