Dorothy Hunter

Dorothy Jean Hunter, 81 went to be with our Lord on November 22, 2015.  Services for Mrs. Hunter will be 1:00 pm Friday, November 28, 2015 at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born March 6, 1934 in Clarksville to Victoria Nunley & Alta Mae Humphrey.  She married her first husband, the late Lee Dale Gilbert in 1946 and to this union 12 children were born. She married her second husband, the late Delbert Hunter in 1979.  She loved sewing, fishing, hunting, cooking and enjoyed spending time with her family & grandchildren. Above all, Dorothy loved serving the Lord; her faith transcended through her personality making her the Godly woman the bible speaks of in Proverbs 31, “charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” She will be missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her well.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons; Joe & Linda Gilbert, Keith & Maria Gilbert all of Lubbock; one daughter, Carlotta & Benjamin Tanui of Lubbock; one brother, Willie C. & Lovie Nunley of Lubbock; three sisters, Nancy Rogers, Shirley & Larry Bonds, Diane & John Brooks all of Lubbock; thirty six grandchildren and host of great & great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three sons, James Ray Gilbert, Delbert Lee Gilbert, Robert Earl Gilbert, six daughters, Ruby Lee Lee, Eula Jean Newton, Dorothy Louise Fulton, Alice Faye Ferguson, Louella Byrd, Coyann Lilly; two brothers, Vic Nunley, Charles Nunley; two sisters, Mary Joe Richards, Norma Mitchell.
